The Baltimore Ravens are teaming up with Constellation to tackle an Earth Day event through their Sacks for Seeds campaign that ran during the 2012 football season. In line with the Ravens' efforts to promote green initiatives, Constellation has donated 37 trees for the 37 sacks the Ravens' defense recorded during their Super Bowl Championship season. Together, Ravens and Constellation employees/volunteers will be planting these trees and performing other service activities on Monday, April 22.
"Constellation is proud to team with the Ravens for this event," said Mark Huston, senior vice president and head of retail for Constellation. "What better way to recognize Earth Day in Baltimore than by helping to green our community and showing our support for the Ravens and their tremendous championship season."
Aided by the Parks & People Foundation and its Schoolyard Greening Initiative, Patterson High School in Baltimore City was chosen as the location for the planting of the trees and neighborhood revitalization. The initiative transforms schoolyards into educating green sites, improving the environment, building the community and creating educational opportunities for students.
Over 75 volunteers from the Ravens, Constellation, Parks & People, Patterson High School and M&T Bank will participate in the Earth Day event with several service activities for the school and surrounding neighborhood.
The Ravens' Earth Day 2013 service project is an extension of the organization's continuing efforts to go green. Current initiatives range from the recycling program at M&T Bank Stadium to energy conservation practices, both at the stadium and the Under Armour Performance Center.
There will be on-site parking available for all media attending Monday's event.
