Baltimore Ravens LS Morgan Cox has been named to the 2017 Pro Bowl roster, the NFL announced Wednesday. It marks Cox's second-straight Pro Bowl nod, with him joining Ravens FB Kyle Juszczyk, LB C.J. Mosley, K Justin TuckerandG Marshal Yanda as honorees for their standout performances this past season.
A seven-year veteran, Cox was chosen by Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid as a "need" player for the Pro Bowl roster. (Reid's staff will coach in the NFL's annual All-Star game.) The NFL stipulates that the head coach of each team chooses a "need" player, and those players must be long snappers.
"Playing in the Pro Bowl for a second time is a huge honor for me," Cox stated. "All the hard work that we put into this game is validated when you receive such an honor. I'm proud to represent a great organization like the Ravens, who are among the NFL's best.
"To me, this award is not an individual one. I've been so blessed to be surrounded by such supportive people. Coach [John] Harbaugh and coach [Jerry] Rosburg have pushed me since I came to the Ravens in 2010. They have put me in a position to be successful. Coach Randy Brown, Justin and Sam [Koch] have helped me hone my craft each day and demand me to be at my best each time I'm on the field."
This past season, Cox competed in every game, snapping on all 80 punts, 39 field goal attempts (38 successful) and 27 PATs (all converted). In addition to Tucker's Pro Bowl accolade, Cox helped him earn unanimous first-team All-Pro honors and produce perhaps the greatest season ever by an NFL kicker.
Tucker scored a single-season franchise-record 141 points, connecting on 38 of 39 FGs (lone miss was a block) and 27 of 27 PATs. Tucker's 38 FGs ranked first in the NFL, while he was 10-for-10 from 50-plus yards, tying (Blair Walsh, 2012) for the most such kicks in NFL single-season history. Amazingly, an NFL single-season record 24 of Tucker's 38 FGs made came from 40 yards or beyond (he was 24-of-24 on such boots).
