Ravens Open Practice Window for Rookie Running Back

Rasheen Ali

The Ravens opened the 21-day practice window for rookie running back Rasheen Ali on Thursday.

A fifth round pick out of Marshall, Ali made the initial 53-man roster out of training camp but was placed on injured reserve with a neck injury ahead of Week 1.

With Ali and Keaton Mitchell (knee) starting the season on the shelf, Baltimore pulled from its practice squad to fill the No. 3 running back role. John Kelly, who was released earlier this week, played the first two games, and undrafted rookie Chris Collier was active the last two weeks. Collier only has one more gameday elevation remaining before he would need to sign to the 53-man roster in order to play in a game.

The Ravens haven't relied on their No. 3 backs this season, giving them zero carries through four games as Derrick Henry has dominated the rushing workload for Baltimore.

Mitchell, who is recovering from a late-season ACL injury, is also eligible to return this week, although Head Coach John Harbaugh said he's not close enough yet to provide a timetable.

"I would say this; [Keaton Mitchell] is right on schedule," Harbaugh said. "The schedule was [for him] to be back this season. Exactly when that would be, we're probably closer to understanding that now, just because we're closer toward the end of that. But, you couldn't really pin it down yet."

The Ravens have one open spot on the active roster after cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis was placed on injured reserve Saturday. Baltimore also opened the 21-day practice window for cornerback Arthur Maulet this week, but he didn't practice on Thursday after returning to the field Wednesday.
