During each week of the 2016 regular season, the Baltimore Ravens will recognize one local high school football game as its Ravens RISE High School Football Showdown.
This week's Showdown will feature the Boonsboro Warriors (5-1) at the North Hagerstown Hubs (1-5). Kickoff is scheduled for Friday (10/14) at 7:00 p.m. The Warriors hope to build off of last year's 42-0 win over the Hubs, while North Hagerstown looks to rebound with a victory over its Washington County foe.
In conjunction with The Baltimore Sun, a voting poll will be established each week to help select a game that will receive a visit from Ravens Cheerleaders and mascot Poe, have the stadium outfitted in Ravens banners and flags and obtain Ravens giveaways for fans in the stands. Additionally, a $1,000 donation will be awarded to each participating school's respective athletic program. Following the matchup, each Showdown will be highlighted with a detailed game recap and photo gallery.
Voting is now open for next week's Ravens RISE High School Football Showdown and will close Tuesday (10/18). The games available for Week 8 are:
- Hammond at Oakland Mills (10/21 @ 7:00 p.m.)
- Reservoir at Centennial (10/21 @ 7:00 p.m.)
- River Hill at Atholton (10/22 @ 1:00 p.m.)

Anthony Burgos, varsity head football coach of the Franklin (Reisterstown, Md.) Indians, has been named the Ravens High School Coach of the Week. Now in its 20th year of existence, Burgos is the sixth recipient of the award in 2016. He has also been recognized as the Coach of the Week on two previous occasions (2008 and 2010) while leading the Indians.
Last Friday, Franklin (4-1) extended their winning streak over the Milford Mill (Baltimore, Md.) Millers to six games with an exciting 24-20 victory. After trailing 6-0 early in the first quarter, the Indians rattled off 17 unanswered points to take the halftime lead. After a comeback bid from the Millers, Franklin added the winning margin with under three minutes remaining in the game on a 2-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Joshua Turner.
Franklin is unbeaten in its last 28 Baltimore County regular season games, with the most recent loss occurring in 2013. Despite returning no starters to this year's offense, the Indians are scoring nearly 34 points per game, while their defense has been stout allowing just 12 points per contest.
"We try to create a culture at Franklin where year-after-year we are continuing to pursue excellence," Burgos explained. "This is a special year for us, because coming into the season people said we were rebuilding, but this is a very hard-working team that is enjoyable to work with every day. They are rising to the challenge and proving everybody wrong."
Franklin travels to Towson (1-4) this Saturday (10/15) and looks to build off of last year's 61-0 victory over their Baltimore County rival.
Each week during the season, the Ravens honor a high school coach who has made a significant impact on his student-athletes. Each winner will be in attendance for the Ravens vs. Eagles game at M&T Bank Stadium on Dec. 18 for an opportunity to be named the Ravens High School Coach of the Year. In addition, each coach receives a $2,000 donation to the school's football program and an award from Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.
These initiatives are just a piece of Ravens RISE, the team's football outreach initiative presented by Wendy's. The program impacts a range of area football players from youth to high school, providing them with a year-round opportunity to "Play Like A Raven" through clinics, tournaments, grants, ticket donations and exclusive opportunities to play at M&T Bank Stadium and interact with Ravens players and coaches.
