The Baltimore Ravens placed rookie RB Bobby Rainey (knee) on Injured Reserve and signed free agent CB Chris Johnson to their 53-man roster, it was announced Tuesday.
Seeing action in 73 career games (30 starts), the 6-1, 200-pound Johnson has totaled 157 tackles (140 solo), eight interceptions (returned for 118 yards, with one touchdown), three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. An eight-year veteran from Louisville, he was a seventh-round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2003.
Johnson was traded to the St. Louis Rams in 2005 before playing five seasons (2007-11) for the Oakland Raiders. His contract was terminated by Oakland in March after he was placed on Injured Reserve last December.
Johnson was not in training camp with a team this summer. While with the Raiders in 2009, he started a career-high 15 games, intercepting three passes and posting 18 passes defensed. He played in four games (three starts) in 2011, registering 14 total tackles and one forced fumble.
