TE Dennis Pitta and the Baltimore Ravens have restructured the veteran player's contract, general manager and executive vice president Ozzie Newsome announced Wednesday.
"Dennis wants to continue his playing career, and we want to give him that opportunity," Newsome stated. "We have reworked his contract, and we're excited to help him with his comeback. Everyone here wants Dennis to succeed."
Pitta, who enters his seventh NFL season, re-signed (five-year contract) with the Ravens in March of 2014 after originally being selected by the team in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
"I am thankful for this opportunity to continue my career," Pitta stated. "I'm excited to get back to work with my teammates and for this organization. Physically, I feel great and am ready to begin building toward a successful 2016 season."
Seeing action in 50 regular season games (11 starts), Pitta has recorded 138 receptions for 1,369 yards and 11 touchdowns. In six postseason contests, he has produced 21 receptions for 233 yards and four touchdowns.
Pitta missed the entire 2015 campaign while on the Physically Unable to Perform list, rehabilitating a re-injured hip sustained on Sept. 21, 2014 at Cleveland. Prior to that, he had successfully returned to action after originally dislocating and fracturing his hip during the Ravens' 2013 training camp. Pitta battled back from that initial injury to play in the season's final four games that year.
