Practice Report: Devontez Walker Catches Long Touchdown in His Return

After barely playing in Saturday's preseason game and missing Monday's practice, wide receiver Devontez Walker returned from his rib injury Tuesday.

The fourth-round rookie had a slow training camp as he dealt with the injury, but Tuesday was one of his best practices all summer, highlighted by the biggest play of the day.

In seven-on-seven work, Devin Leary launched a deep ball to Walker, who had to come back and over safety Marcus Williams to make the grab. It was a 50-yard score for Walker, who was a big-play threat whenever he stepped on the field in college.

Walker had a couple other catches in what was a promising return. The Ravens are looking for more big plays this season, and Walker could help them if he can earn reps on Sundays.

Here are more notes from practice, which had less contact and a slower tempo ahead of Thursday's joint practice with the Green Bay Packers:

  • Brandon Stephens opened practice with a pass breakup on Qadir Ismail. Stephens has been sticky all offseason and clearly stays calm when the ball is in the air.
  • Lamar Jackson floated a pass perfectly to Nelson Agholor for a 20-yard grab. The two connected over the middle for a chunk play later in practice. Agholor and Jackson have constantly communicated this offseason and even trained together in Florida. "We're going to be better than last year," Jackson said Monday about their connection.
  • Jackson was shifty all afternoon, taking a couple of runs for big gains. He's looking more and more like the younger version of himself when he takes off.
  • With Mark Andrews still sidelined after his car accident, Charlie Kolar has been active in the pass game. Kolar had a few 10-15-yard grabs, including one in the back of the end zone where he had to reach over Zay Flowers, who was also trying to make a play on the ball.
  • Joe Evans had a sack, something he's done a handful of times this summer. The undrafted rookie put together a solid training camp and has been a workhorse in the preseason, playing 117 across two games.
  • The offense line opened some big holes for Derrick Henry and Justice Hill, who each as explosive runs. It was promising to see after the offensive line struggled in the run game against the Atlanta Falcons.
  • David Ojabo would have had a sack on Josh Johnson in a game, but the referees let them keep playing. Ojabo is coming off a strong preseason game and said after practice he feels 100% healthy.
  • Jackson and Flowers connected for a few chunk plays. The duo looks ready to improve off a record-setting rookie season from Flowers.
  • Anthony Miller continued to practice well since signing in Baltimore. The 29-year-old had a toe-tap grab and caught a deep ball, though the safety probably would have delivered a big hit in a game.
  • Veteran running back John Kelly had a one-handed catch in the back of the end zone from Leary. The play probably would have been dead for a sack in a game, though.
