What the Bengals Said After Losing to the Ravens on 'Thursday Night Football'

what bengals said

Head Coach Zac Taylor

On the team's second half performance:

"We lost the turnover battle, 1-0. I think that was big. It was 21-7 at that point when we gave them seven points right there on the fumble, they had the big play, and then it kind of went back-and-forth from there. [The Ravens] are just a good football team, but we expected to come in here and win. We did everything we could to do that. ... We also came on the road to a good team, and it is sickening that this has happened twice to us. That's what it is."

On Ja'Marr Chase's 264-yard, three-touchdown game:

"Incredible. That's a good defense. They've got a ton of talent over there. I thought Ja'Marr [Chase] stepped up in a major way anytime we could find ways to get him the ball, [and] I thought [Joe Burrow] did a great job of that. Ja'Marr finished all those plays for us."

On Joe Burrow taking 13 quarterback hits:

"It's a really talented defense. When you throw the ball that many times, it's going to happen. [Joe Burrow] does a great job buying time until the end to give his guys a chance."

On if he knew the Bengals would go for two:

"Yes. There is a time situation where, I can't get into specifics, but there is a chance maybe you get a three-and-out, get the ball back if you just tied it, and you go kick a game-winning field goal. It didn't feel like we were going to get the ball again."

QB Joe Burrow

On the Bengals falling to 4-6:

"Look at how we are playing, and then you look at Trey Hendrickson and how he is playing, yeah, it's a tough pill to swallow. We had our opportunities, obviously. We know it's tough, and you feel like you're playing well enough to win, and you're not."

On what he would say to Lamar Jackson about the game:

"It's always fun playing against him. You know what kind of game it's going to be. He's going to make big-time plays, put them in great spots to win the game, and you've got to match it. I love playing against him. I love watching him. He's incredible [at] what he does with the ball in his hands. It's fun to watch. You know what type of game it's going to be going into that when you [have] him on the other side."

On how tough it was to rebound from Chase Brown's third quarter fumble:

"We were up two scores with the ball at that point, and it's kind of the story of how it goes against this team. If you lose the turnover battle, you're easily going to lose. That's how these matchups have gone."

WR Ja'Marr Chase

On the Bengals trying to close the game:

"Honestly, man, it's just two great football teams going at it on Thursday. Every time we play Baltimore, it's always a hard fight. It's a dog fight with Baltimore. With games close at the end, we just have to put it away."

On losing to close games to the Ravens twice and the Kansas City Chiefs this season:

"It sucked losing to those guys, but if we keep playing and win, we'll be where we want to be and have another opportunity to play them."

RB Chase Brown

On losing to the Ravens in dramatic fashion twice this season:

"It hurts. It's a divisional opponent. We need those wins, and we will see them again at some point. Everybody in the locker room believes that, so [we'll] just put our heads down [and] keep working until we see them again."

On his game-changing fumble:

"You can imagine there's so much work that goes into these weeks. Putting a lot of work protecting the ball. It's a big emphasis for us. Fumbling is unacceptable. [We] just [have] to do better."

CB Mike Hilton

On what the Bengals did differently in the second half on defense:

"We didn't do anything different. I mean, I guess they made adjustments, and we didn't make plays when we needed to."

On Jackson leading a touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter:

"That's what he's been doing his whole career, just making plays on the ground, through the air. We didn't make enough tonight."

LB Logan Wilson

On the feeling in the locker room after the game:

"A game we made enough plays to win, we just didn't come out on top. That's just kind of how these division games go and credit to them."

On if the Ravens made second half adjustments:

"I mean, they're going to find ways to move the ball. They're one of the best, if not the best offenses in the league. We knew that and we just didn't make enough plays."

On the frustration of almost beating the Ravens twice:

"That's kind of how these things go. AFC North division rivals. You know they're going to be tough games, hard-fought games, and unfortunately, we didn't come out on top. So, we just need to keep moving forward."
